Kevin Thomson shared Ridvan Yilmaz verdict live on air as Rangers left-back finally plays v Dundee

Kevin Thomson was impressed by Ridvan Yilmaz’s performance on Wednesday night as the left-back finally made a Rangers appearance against Dundee.

Yilmaz, 21, joined the Light Blues from Bestikas in the summer but had only made four appearances in all competitions this season before the Premier Sports win over Dundee at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

BT Sport pundit Thomson reacted to Yilmaz’s rare outing, suggesting that he did well both defensively and also when attacking.

“He’s rigid and holding his position rather than bombing on all the time,” said Thomson on Premier Sports 1 on Wednesday night (19 October, 08:35pm).

“And when he has opened his legs up to go inside, he’s just been rugby tackled there.

“He’s got nice balance.”

Get Barisic gone

How many times have Rangers fans called for Yilmaz to start?

Borna Barisic’s performances this season have been pretty poor while last term, the Croatia international also struggled until Calvin Bassey stepped up in the left centre-back role.

Yilmaz is young, hungry and hasn’t really done anything wrong in the limited performances he’s had.

Rangers paid a pretty penny for the Turkey international in the summer.

It’s not very often we’ve splashed out £5million on a player since the 2012 financial meltdown so Ross Wilson and the board cannot be happy with how that investment has gone so far.

Yilmaz will keep on getting linked with a move back to Turkey and one day, he might decide to go back if his time at Ibrox does start properly at some point.

Van Bronckhorst needs to play him more.

Starting this weekend.
