Robbie Ure makes Rangers statement with brilliant B team hat-trick

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is likely to change up his Rangers side for Wednesday’s (19 October) game in the Premier Sports Cup against Dundee.

That could mean Alfredo Morelos gets his chance to lead the line in a domestic game for the first time in a long time having had to sit behind Antonio Colak in the pecking order thanks to the Croatian’s 10 league goals.

But the Colombian is not the only goal-hungry striker making waves at Auchenhowie right now, though, as B Team sensation Robbie Ure reminded the manager of the talent on hand at Ibrox.

David McCallum’s B team surged further ahead in the Lowland League on Tuesday evening (18 October) as they ran out 4-1 winners against East Stirlingshire with Ure scoring a hat-trick.

Charlie Lindsay scored the other goal and Alex Lowry made his return from injury to play 45 minutes but it was the 18-year-old who stole the headlines on the night.

Having played 70 minutes in the Lowland League, it would be unfair to ask him to try and play much, if at all, against Dundee 24 hours later and it doesn’t look likely that he’ll do so.

But van Bronckhorst knows that Morelos is due to see his contract expire in the summer and he could do without the need to go searching for a new number nine yet again.

If Ure can continue scoring goals at the rate he has been for the B team and Under-18s, which includes two in the UEFA Youth League, then he could save the boss a job.

Rangers have that kind of quality cover in all areas of the pitch and have to start utilising the wealth of starlets they have accrued over time.

In other Rangers news, this former academy ace is now waiting in the wings at Ibrox to see the fruits of his 10-year plan.
