Rangers and Celtic can compete with all but one Premier League club in a one-off game – Si Ferry

Si Ferry believes both Rangers and his former club Celtic could compete with every Premier League club bar one in a one-off match.

For decades, Rangers and Celtic have tussled over supremacy of Scottish football, but the age-old debate of how they would cope in England rages on.

Ferry has chimed in on the debate and believes that both teams would hold their own against every Premier League club apart from Manchester City.

“If Celtic and Rangers had fully fit squads then they would definitely be able to compete against teams in the Premier League,” Ferry told Grosvenor Sport, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“Where the difference lies is when you look at the substitutes that Liverpool can bring on compared to Rangers.

“Celtic and Rangers don’t have the same quality in depth but in a one-off game, they could give anyone a game bar Man City.”

Without doubt

Despite the recent defeat to Liverpool, Rangers still remain a threat to any team in world football. Of course, Gers have way less squad depth and a team value that can’t compare to European giants, but they are also a side who are familiar with an underdog label.

You only have to cast your mind back to last season to remember Rangers’ superb run in the Europa League. Giovanni van Bronckhosrt’s side beat some superb teams during that run – many of which would trouble Premier League powerhouses.

So don’t let the heavy defeat to Liverpool cloud your mind. After all, Gers did take the lead in that match too. Before the second-half capitulation they were going toe-to-toe with last year’s Champions League finalists.

As mentioned by Ferry, squad depth is a serious issue for both Celtic and Rangers. But there’s no doubt that Scotland’s finest could challenge English teams in a one-off match.

Manchester City and Liverpool obviously pose the biggest threat, but there are many teams that put up less of a fight in the Premier League than Rangers and Celtic would.
