Hugh MacDonald: Glen Kamara needs minutes to get back into form for Rangers
Hugh MacDonald would like Rangers to start Glen Kamara against Dundee in order to regain some form after a difficult start to the season.
Kamara suffered a knock ahead of the Gers’ Champions League clash against Liverpool and missed the weekend win over Motherwell at Fir Park.
MacDonald feels Kamara has struggled ever since putting a “dreadful” performance in against Celtic in the 2021/22 season and should be looking to get back on the pitch to boost his confidence.

Talking on the PLZ Football Show (41:01, 18 October), The Herald journalist said: “Tomorrow night (Dundee fixture) will be a good opportunity to get three or four players back in, getting Kamara back in for minutes and maybe getting Morelos on for a start.
“I think it all goes back to the Celtic game last February (for Kamara) when he had a dreadful match. Footballers can throw these things in, he wasn’t tracking runners and he didn’t seem at it and he’s had a couple of performances like that since.
“People were talking about him going to the Premier League under Gerrard but people can have those drop-offs so it’s important for him to get gametime and get back on the park.”
Wants out?
Kamara has been heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox in recent months and it does feel like his time in Scotland could well be coming to an end. Injuries haven’t helped of late, but his performances this season are not of the level expected of an international midfielder.
Nice were looking to line up a late summer move for the 26-year-old midfielder (90min, 20 August) and it appears those exit rumours have clearly had an impact on his displays at Ibrox in the 2022/23 season. It’s a shame because there is clearly an extremely talented player there, he just hasn’t quite been able to perform of late.

If he is fit to face Dundee it would be good to see Giovanni van Bronckhorst throw the midfielder into action to try and coax a little bit of form out of him. At a time when Rangers are not firing on all cylinders, it can sometimes take one inspired performance from an out-of-favour player to propel himself into first-team contention.
If Kamara can’t turn his fortunes around then it wouldn’t be a shock to see exit rumours re-emerge in the January window. With his contract running until 2025, the Gers could make a decent amount should they decide to let Kamara depart.
In other Rangers news, an official partner of the Gers has called on the board to sack van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson.
