Rangers defender Leon King escapes ban for questionable tackle v Motherwell

Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have been handed a defensive boost after defender Leon King avoided punishment for his contentious tackle against Motherwell, according to the Daily Record.

King is poised to dodge any punishment for his last-minute lunge on Motherwell midfielder Stuart McKinstry in Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 win.

Motherwell boss Steven Hammell has been left outraged by the decision to not punish King and believes the tackle warranted a red card.

Nevertheless, the hawk-eyed SFA officials have studied the footage and come to the conclusion that King will be allowed to get off scot-free.

Rangers boss Van Bronckhorst will be counting his lucky stars that the outcome of this has been a positive one, with his current squad ruined by injuries.

Rangers

Phew.

Finally, some half-decent news for the Bears, it feels like an eternity since Rangers had some good luck but this one was very much needed.

King is set to play a key role in the Gers’ defence in the coming months after Connor Goldson’s injury has been confirmed as worse than first feared.

Goldson pulled up with the injury during the humiliating 7-1 defeat to Liverpool at Ibrox last Wednesday and joined a host of favourite faces on the sidelines.

Nevertheless, King has impressed since making the step up to first-team action and the 18-year-old is now being rewarded for his good form with a string of starts.

If anything, King’s early introduction into the fast-paced first-team professional game will be a good thing for Rangers moving forward and in his career.

King and Ben Davies seem to be striking up a solid partnership at the back too, it will take time, but the duo could prove to be useful for Rangers moving forward.

In other Rangers news, an official partner of the Gers has called on the board to sack van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson.
