Ally McCoist believes Rangers are missing forward Tom Lawrence massively

Ally McCoist believes Rangers forward Tom Lawrence is the key difference between the Gers and Celtic at the moment and the Light Blues miss him massively.

The 28-year-old Welshman picked up an injury earlier this season and hasn’t featured for the Bears since, as the Rangers squad has been ravaged by injuries.

McCoist is adamant that Rangers are missing Lawrence and believes his energy and drive are the difference between them and their fierce rivals.

“There’s an energy level that Celtic possess which Rangers haven’t been matching, particularly in wide areas of the pitch,” said McCoist as quoted by Football Scotland.

“Celtic are really direct and positive and you can see that the other players in the squad are really benefiting from the directness of Celtic in the wide areas.

“I don’t think Rangers have that same positivity about them and I really think they’re missing Tom Lawrence. I’ll hold my hands up and say I didn’t think I’d be saying that about him at the start of the season. I knew Tom was a good player but I didn’t think he’d become such a key part of the team so quickly.

“Rangers are missing his energy and drive and that’s the difference between Celtic and Rangers at the moment.”

Needed.

Lawrence’s injury has come as a big blow to Gers, after a bright start to life at Ibrox the forward has not been seen in action since August.

Rangers are missing Lawrence’s technical ability on the ball and someone who can create chances and goals out of nothing, they need Lawrence back as quickly as possible.

It seems the playmaker suffered another injury setback recently and will now be out until after the World Cup, annoying to say the least.

Rangers can’t seem to find any luck regarding injuries at the moment so it’s no surprise that this one isn’t going their way either.

The Welshman scored three goals and registered two assists in his nine appearances for Gers this season, highlighting his apparent importance to the squad.

The World Cup break can be used as a positive in this one though, it should allow Lawrence some extra time to get back and competing in first-team action.

In other Rangers news, an official partner of the Gers has called on the board to sack van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson.
