Tam McManus reacts to major Leon King incident in Rangers win v Motherwell
Tam McManus has laughed off suggestions that Leon King should have been sent off for Rangers in their win over Motherwell on Sunday.
The light blues returned to the winning column with a 2-1 win at Fir Park thanks to goals from Malik Tillman and John Lundstram, surviving a late fight back from the home side.
But during the second half defender Leon King was booked for a late tackle, but Motherwell boss Steven Hammell felt he should have been sent off as it was high and he was the last man, but McManus responded to that on his personal Twitter account in disagreement.
Quoting a tweet with footage of the incident McManus simply said, “This is never a red card. Ever.”
Rangers went on to claim all three points, holding out after a nervy ending and getting rewarded for a pretty poor overall performance.
No chance
There is absolutely no chance that King should have or would have been sent off for that tackle, because it wasn’t that bad at all.
The young defender was definitely late and it wasn’t a nice tackle, but he’s a mile away from the goal and there is cover coming either side of him, so a yellow card was definitely the right decision.

McManus is never one to shy away from giving his opinion on football matters, so when he says it isn’t a red card you know it was never even close.
On this occasion the Motherwell manager was just looking for an excuse for the defeat against a lacklustre Rangers side, who were nowhere near their best and yet still came away with maximum points from the game.
King is beginning to establish himself as a great, young first-team player who can step into the side and be relied upon, so it’s great to see him getting experience and featuring more regularly for the Gers.
