Rangers have just four certain starters left fit to play – The Athletic

With injuries piling up at Rangers, Giovanni van Bronckhorst only has a handful of players left who are certain to start, according to The Athletic.

Connor Goldson would usually have added an extra body to the list but he is now set to miss months of action through injury which has simultaneously promoted another player into the untouchables group temporarily.

The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell now says that only Ryan Kent, John Lundstram, James Tavernier and Ben Davies are guaranteed starters every week at Ibrox.

Top-scorer Antonio Colak was not included on the list despite his double-figure goal tally in the Premiership as Alfredo Morelos offers more of a threat in general play than the Croatian.

Goldson’s injury has forced Davies to be included on the list with very few if any defensive options elsewhere other than young duo Leon King and James Sands.

Crisis?

It isn’t just the injuries that are really hurting van Bronckhorst and Rangers right now but also the horrid lack of form in all competitions.

That might seem bizarre to say with the Light Blues just two points off Premiership leaders Celtic as things stand but the Hoops are demolishing teams on a regular basis while Rangers only just managed to scrape past Motherwell on Sunday (16 October).

Rangers

The 2-1 victory didn’t see a great deal of chances created outside of those scored and while the clinicalness is to be admired, the boss would surely want more to be created in the final third.

But this far into a season, the manager should know roughly what his best team is and have at least seven players he is confident in picking no matter the occasion so to only have four is a huge worry.

There is a feeling that he might be on borrowed time right now if he can’t get this talented group of players firing as they should be against all opposition.

In other Rangers news, this BBC pundit could not believe what he saw Kent do in the first half of the Motherwell victory.
