Rangers defender Leon King put on blast by Motherwell midfielder Stuart McKinstry
Rangers defender Leon King has been put on blast by Motherwell midfielder Stuart McKinstry after he was wiped out by the teenager in the Fir Park clash.
The Motherwell midfielder was taken out about 30 yards from the goal by King with just minutes on the clock left, in a tackle the midfielder thinks should have seen a red card.
McKinstry admitted that King “knew what he was doing” in the tackle and reckons he would have scored if the defender didn’t bring him down.

“In my opinion, it could have been a red. If he didn’t bring me down I was through on goal,” said McKinstry as quoted by Football Scotland.
There is all that stuff about someone covering but he knew what was doing. I felt it could have been a sending-off,”
“The referee said there was someone covering but I was on the floor and couldn’t really see. All I know it was a sore challenge and it could have been worse.
“It was a bad tackle. I know Leon and he asked if I was okay afterwards and it was something he needed to do to help his team.”

Sloppy.
In all fairness, it was a sloppy tackle from King, it was extremely silly to make at that stage of the game and his inexperience showed.
It’s hard to suggest whether it was a red card or not, referees current lack of clarification on what the differences are between a red and yellow still loom large.
Despite this King put in a fairly solid performance Sunday afternoon and he needs to build some confidence in the coming weeks.
The gap to Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership is being closed further by the week and this is all the Bears can aim to do in the coming months.
The academy kid will be needed in this vital run of games and he needs to step up even further in the absence of first-team regulars like Goldson.
It was a tough week for King and Gers but at the end of the day they bounced back and got three points and that’s all fans can ask, for now.
In other Rangers news, an official partner of the Gers has called on the board to sack van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson.
