Kris Commons rips into Rangers centre-back John Souttar claiming he wouldn’t make a difference
Kris Commons has suggested that centre-back John Souttar wouldn’t have made a difference against Liverpool and isn’t a big loss for Rangers.
Rangers suffered a humiliating 7-1 defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League last Wednesday and have since put in a lacklustre performance against Motherwell.
Commons admitted that injured centre-back Souttar wouldn’t have made a difference in Europe or the SPFL, confessing he is “no great loss”.

“I’m sorry, but John Souttar is no great loss. I just don’t think he would have made any difference to Rangers,” said Commons as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“He’s just not going to solve any issues in the SPFL let alone Europe. He’s a decent but injury-prone centre-half who can handle the ball well enough but doesn’t have a great turn of pace. Pinning the blame on an injury list that includes him just won’t wash.”

Wrong.
Commons is wrong on this one, Rangers extensive injury list certainly hasn’t helped matters domestically or in European competition.
Souttar has had an unfortunate start to life at Ibrox, featuring only once for the Bears, so it’s tough to claim that he would have made no difference at all.
The centre-back reportedly had the injury when he signed for Gers so if anything this is a result of poor management from the club’s hierarchy, no shock there.
Souttar is an excellent defender when he is fit and in form, Rangers just need to get him back and firing, he would make a difference to their defensive woes.
Keeping him fit is the major obstacle here though, not his lack of talent like Commons suggests, he’s been very injury prone over his career so far.
The transfer has been a nightmare and there’s no suggestion that he’ll be back soon but to claim he would have made no difference at all is ludicrous.
In other Rangers news, an official partner of the Gers has called on the board to sack van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson.
