Kris Boyd slams Rangers mentality in UEFA Champions League shocker v Liverpool

Kris Boyd has slammed Rangers reaction to Connor Goldson going off injured in the humiliating Wednesday evening loss to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.

Goldson limped off and seemed to take with him the whole Rangers squad, his absence highlighted his importance to the Gers backline.

Boyd claims that losing the Rangers vice-captain and Ryan Jack should be “no way be used as an excuse” and labelled the performance after he left the pitch as mentally weak.

Rangers

“Losing them both should in no way be used as an excuse for the rest folding like a pack of cards,” said Boyd as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“I wouldn’t go as far as saying they threw in the towel — but they were weak mentally and running on fumes for the last half an hour.

“Last season they were arguably one of the fittest teams in Europe. They were able to keep going for 120 minutes without a problem in high-profile matches.

“There clearly was a change in strategy over the summer as they don’t seem to have the same energy levels. Against Liverpool, they looked out on their feet just after the break.”

Rangers

Humiliation.

Rangers should never be losing by that scoreline in a home game, Ibrox is meant to be a fortress and a tough place for teams to visit, it may have just lost its formidable allure on Wednesday.

Questions need to be asked about what went wrong and things need to be put right on Sunday afternoon at Motherwell.

With Goldson out for a few weeks at least, it looks like the Gers backline may be equally as sketchy in the coming weeks.

Dismal stuff and it again highlights the poor lack of investment made over the summer months in the Rangers squad, it looks brittle, weak and out of ideas right now.

Obviously, the Liverpool team that thrashed Gers on Wednesday evening are a level above but that’s no excuse for the team to heal over at Ibrox.

European dreams for this season seem to have come to an abrupt end, maybe this will nudge the Rangers hierarchy into making some transfer moves, actually, it probably won’t.

In other Rangers news, Ross Wilson may have played a blinder for Rangers after a shocking development in October that will leave many Gers fans surprised.
