Ally McCoist believes Rangers haven’t replaced four top talents that left the team

Ally McCoist believes Rangers haven’t replaced Calvin Bassey, Joe Aribo, Leon Balogun and Nathan Patterson after the quartet left Ibrox this summer.

Rangers slump in form has been all too apparent and their lack of investment in the summer transfer window was highlighted as a concern by fans.

McCoist admitted the Gers are missing the “ability and physicality” that those four players delivered to the squad on so many big occasions in Govan.

“Rangers are missing the quality and physicality of Bassey, Aribo, Balogun by the way, and Patterson,” he told BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra as quoted by Football Scotland.

“They’ve brought in Colak, who’s done extremely well and they’re missing Lawrence. But they haven’t replaced the ability and physicality of those players I mentioned.

“It is (miles away from last season’s squad). I think Rangers have gone back the way since last year and that’s one of the reasons for it.

“I understand and share the fans’ frustration. What we saw in midweek wasn’t acceptable. It was not acceptable.”

Rangers

Same old.

It’s the same old story that fans have been harping on about for countless months now, Gers lack of movement in the transfer market is affecting their progression as a team.

You can’t just stand still and lose some of your best talents, by not replacing the likes of Patterson and Bassey Rangers left themselves out to dry.

There’s no excuse for not trying to improve the squad after reaching a Europa League final, it was the perfect time to ignite some interest in joining the Ibrox outfit.

Nevertheless, whilst the iron was hot and Van Bronckhorst seemed like an exciting manager to play under, the Gers hierarchy failed to supply the funds needed to join his setup.

Winning the Scottish Premiership seems like the only saving grace for this campaign, one that was meant to be exciting with the arrival of UEFA Champions League football at Ibrox.

And even that has been turned into a nightmare.

In other Rangers news, an official partner of the club has called for van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson to be sacked.
