Rangers star Ianis Hagi suffers injury setback, return date unknown
Ianis Hagi has suffered a setback on his return from injury and is unlikely to return for Rangers before 2023, according to his national team boss Edi Iordanescu.
The Romania playmaker suffered a ruptured ACL in January 2022 during a Scottish Cup game and hasn’t played since, with the club quiet about his rehabilitation and potential return.
But Iordanescu has been speaking, as quoted by The Sun [14 October], and says that in a conversation with the player earlier this week he was told that his recovery has been “prolonged”.

“Three days ago I had a discussion with Ianis. His recovery has been prolonged,” he shared.
“He couldn’t tell me anything concrete either regarding a date for his return. He is under the observation of the medical staff at the club.
“Of course, if he were to return before the end of the year that would be good and he would immediately become an option for selection.
“And he still remains positive and confident.”
Awful
One of the club’s most exciting talents has had his career stagnated and potentially ruined, and it doesn’t look like getting back on track any time soon.
Hagi had been keen to try and return to action before the end of the year, with his dad Gheorge always coy on whether or not that was possible.

But it seems that the attacking midfielder may have been pushing too hard and has had to settle down a little bit, meaning he won’t be seen before the new year.
That would mean almost an entire calendar year of his career lost, at such a promising stage and key time in his career.
Rangers could really do with his quality in the final third coming back into the side to help them compete with Celtic for the league title, but it will be difficult to see him having any real sort of impact on the side during this season even if he does come back.
It’s a huge blow, and one that makes the news that Connor Goldson is likely to miss months of action with an injury even worse.
