Rangers fans slammed for ‘ridiculous’ act during 7-1 loss v Liverpool

Wednesday evening (12 October) was a humbling one for Rangers after they threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 7-1 at home to Liverpool.

A late-game capitulation in defence saw Mohamed Salah shine with a six-minute hat-trick off the bench as Jurgen Klopp’s side tore the Scottish Cup holders to pieces.

The result wasn’t the worst scenes Ibrox saw that night, however, as The Guardian journalist Sachin Nakrani shared what he saw from the press box that alarmed him.

“Only negative of night was the group of Rangers ultras – kids with balaclavas over their faces and no braincells in their heads – charging back into the ground after FT in order to throw bottles at the away fans. A couple of people hurt. Nasty, needless and frankly ridiculous,” he said via his personal Twitter account.

Own worst enemy

A 7-1 defeat brings enough bad press to the football club without a very small section of the supporters piling on the misery for everybody associated with Rangers.

It was only the very tiny minority that caused a stir but that can’t be a concern for UEFA or Liverpool who have seen their own fans injured as a result of their buffoonery.

Rangers can expect to be handed a hefty fine by UEFA in the near future for this behaviour and it would only be the latest piece of controversy the club have got themselves in.

It’s almost like they are trying to cause problems at times and while this isolated incident can’t be put down to the club, it could soon turn sour if they try to deny it happening.

The unfortunate truth of football nowadays is that there are thugs like this at every club and it really puts a downer on games for the normal people who just want to watch a good game of football.

In other Rangers news, injuries are causing Gareth Southgate some headaches for England but this Gers man could be the man to save the day.
