Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara tear into Rangers after Liverpool humiliation
Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy didn’t hold back in their assessment of Rangers after the Gers suffered a damaging 7-1 defeat against Liverpool at Ibrox.
Second-half substitute Mohamed Salah scored a record-breaking six-minute hat trick to condemn the Light Blues to their fourth defeat on the spin in the Champions League.
The talkSPORT duo felt the manner of the defeat against a struggling Liverpool side was completely “unacceptable”.
Talking on talkSPORT (12 October) Cundy said: “We spoke about Celtic last night about how disappointing and embarrassing it was and tonight those same words have got to be used. This is a Liverpool side that are coming into this game midtable.
“They’re tenth and having of a wobble and you see Klopp in his pre-match conference, he’s under a bit of pressure. Rangers went one nil up and could’ve gone 2-1 up.
“7-1 is unacceptable against a side that’s struggling to get a little bit of rhythm and they walk up to Rangers and spank them seven times, that’s embarrassing.
O’Hara added: “They were a bit of a disgrace tonight.”
Low point
This season keeps throwing up plenty of highs and lows for Giovanni van Bronckhost and this moment certainly ranks as one of the lowest points for the Rangers boss. In fact, it’s probably the lowest point he’s had whilst he has been in charge at Ibrox.
The result against Liverpool is damaging for the whole of Scottish football. There has long been an argument about how Celtic and Rangers would get on in the Premier League and after their Champions League performances, it’s hard to argue that they would compete in their current state.

This was a Liverpool side that has struggled so far this season and are in midtable. The Gers simply had to conjure up something better than what they managed on Wednesday evening [12 October]. It’s safe to say that Rangers can wave goodbye to any hopes of playing European football after Christmas.
Van Bronckhorst needs to deliver domestically now to prevent the pressure really starting to rise after a very mixed start to the 2022/23 campaign.
In other Rangers news, there’s been yet another high-profile exit from behind the scenes at Ibrox.
