Danny Murphy feels Rangers “don’t have enough quality” to cause Liverpool a problem in their Champions League clash tonight.

The Gers take on Liverpool at Ibrox on Wednesday night in a must-win group stage clash having been easily beaten at Anfield in the reverse fixture just a week ago when they lost 2-0.

But speaking on talkSPORT [12 October, 10:11], former Liverpool midfielder Murphy admitted that Rangers do have a “small chance” of getting a result from the game because of the fans but questioned the quality in their squad to compete at this level.

“Yeah I think Liverpool are favourites of course, even though they’ve not been in great form,” he said.

“I think Rangers have got a small chance, not a great chance. The fans will make a difference. Rangers have been good at home for a couple of years in Europe, but I just think the quality, irrelevant of Liverpool’s form, is just too high against that opposition.

“Rangers just don’t have enough quality to give Liverpool a problem.”

Chance

Nobody is expecting Liverpool to come to Ibrox and get turned over by Rangers on Wednesday night, but to say they have no chance would be wrong.

This is a Liverpool side in poor form and while they’re clearly a better side on paper than Rangers, the light blues know exactly what they need to do to cause a stir.

The fans will be right up for the game knowing that anything but a positive result will mean they’re eliminated from the competition, so they have to start fast and hard.

Van Bronckhorst can make several changes to his team from last week to get a more positive outlook on the pitch and really go for a win against a side who are littered with injuries and struggling for results domestically.

We’d absolutely love to be able to turn around on Thursday and laugh at Murphy, but it’ll be a really tough ask to do but if we don’t believe we can then what’s the point?
