Alex Lowry returns to Rangers training but will not feature v Liverpool U-19s

Rangers B team boss David McCallum has confirmed that midfielder Alex Lowry has returned to training ahead of the Liverpool under-19s Champions League clash.

The midfielder, who made his senior debut for the club earlier in 2022, is playing for the juniors in a bid to nail down a squad role in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

His injury setback had derailed his plans slightly, but he is now back in training and will be looking to impress the club hierarchy.

Via Rangers Review, McCallum said of Lowry, “He won’t be involved in our game tomorrow, it’s slightly too soon for that. There’s been talk about looking at the fixtures coming up to see where he might get some opportunities.

“He’s back training and he’s looking good, but there’s a bit of care to be taken to make sure that when he does go back into games, he’s able to put himself in that environment full-on without any concerns at all, even just in terms of his general fitness.”

Get him back in action

Lowry is one of the most exciting youngsters at Ibrox and the fans will surely want to see more of him in the coming months.

Since his debut in January, his first-team appearances have been few and far in between.

However, the fact that he signed a new deal in the summer until 2025 suggests that there are plans to promote him to a regular first-team position in the due course.

The senior and junior sides will be taking on Liverpool on Wednesday and it remains to be seen just how well both fare against the mighty Reds.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side were no match for Jurgen Klopp’s men last week, but they’re expected to approach this game slightly differently.

We’re expecting them to be more adventurous and expressive in front of their home fans who will surely play a key role in making this a tough visit for the Premier League outfit.
