Van Bronckhorst raves about Leon King, makes Rangers transfer admission

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that Rangers young defender Leon King will be in the squad to face Liverpool at Ibrox.

The young centre-back has really impressed the Dutchman. Van Bronckhorst feels that he has got a “very bright” future ahead of him.

King has been reportedly targeted by Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Leeds and Newcastle, as per Fabrizio Romano (11 October).

Van Bronckhorst has made it clear that the interest in the youngster is natural, but he is yet to receive any offer from Premier League clubs.

“You will see him tomorrow. I’ve not heard of any interest from down south. When you are performing well in Scotland you will get interest. Leon is a player who is developing really well,” said the Dutchman, as quoted by Rangers Review, when asked if there’s any interest in King.

“He played some games last year but we wanted to make space for him to get more minutes and when he is taking the minutes he is performing really well.

“He still has a lot to learn but he is open to coaching and putting the energy into work hard and better himself. I think his future is very bright but he needs to continue playing well and training well and we are helping him in that process. He is developing really well.”

Talent

The 18-year-old is a fantastic young talent, and Van Bronckhorst is doing what he can to shape his career nicely.

He played a few games for the senior team last season but this could be his breakout season at the club.

Van Bronckhorst has got plenty of options at the back, despite the injury to John Souttar, but he has put immense trust in the youngster.

The Dutchman has made it clear that King will be in the squad which shows the confidence he has in the youngster.

As per the transfer rumour is concerned, Romano is widely respected and he has got great sources. Probably, the aforementioned clubs are just keeping tabs on him, and there’s nothing concrete.

Having sold Calvin Bassey to Ajax on big-money, Rangers should look to emulate such deals. It means the club must wait for the right offer to sell King if he continues to develop into a top-class talent.
