Rangers winger Ryan Kent must ‘buck up’ v Liverpool – Kris Commons

Kris Commons has urged Ryan Kent to show some reaction when Rangers will face Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday, 12 October.

The 25-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract at Ibrox Stadium, was left out of the playing XI in the Gers previous match against St. Mirren on Saturday, 08 October.

Commons, in the latest column for the print edition of Scottish Daily Mail print edition on Monday, 10 October (page 67), suggested that the winger is “not doing enough” to get a new deal from Rangers.

“There was always a suggestion with Ryan Kent that he was one of a select few players at Rangers who were pretty much ‘undroppable’, along with Connor Goldson and James Tavernier,” he wrote.

“But he found out what it’s like to be parked on the bench when Giovanni van Bronckhorst axed him for Saturday’s 4-0 win over St Mirren at Ibrox.

“Kent has been poor all season — and was finally dropped on Saturday. It was a fairly public kick up the backside.

“This has been a long time coming for a player with whom fans are growing frustrated. Kent is out of contract at the end of the season.

“At the moment, he’s not doing enough to justify a new deal. The only thing that would make Rangers offer him one is the fact they don’t want to lose him for free.

“He needs to buck up his ideas, so it’ll be interesting to see if Van Bronckhorst has been able to get a reaction from him if he’s back in the team for the Champions League game with Liverpool on Wednesday.”

Big call

Rangers are going through a more than decent campaign where on the domestic front, they are placed second on the league table, just two points behind leaders Celtic.

However, in Europe, they have been found wanting against the best in the continent as they are still without after three matches and are placed at the bottom of their group.

Those results have left them with very little chance of securing a place in the next round which is why the upcoming fixtures also present an opportunity for players like Kent to express themselves on the pitch.

Rangers will be hoping that the 25-year-old, who has been a key figure in the attacking department at Ibrox Stadium over the last years, will return to good form in the match against his former club Liverpool when the teams will meet on Wednesday.

In the ongoing campaign, the Oldham-born has only scored a goal and provided four assists in 13 matches across all competitions [Transfermarkt].

In other Rangers news, the club now had a record-breaking striker on trial at Ibrox and he’s gone on to make headlines in the United Kingdom.
