Rangers: Ridvan Yilmaz Ibrox exit would equal horrible reflection on Ross Wilson

Ridvan Yilmaz has been linked with a move away from Rangers – and that would have fingers pointing at Ross Wilson and the transfer business at Ibrox.

The Turkey international only joined the club in the summer from Besiktas but has found game time hard to come by under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

According to Turkish media outlet Takvim (8 October), Yilmaz is being monitored by Galatasaray after finding himself out of Rangers’ first-team plans. The left-back has featured just four times for Rangers in the 2022/23 season.

It doesn’t quite make sense as to why van Bronckhorst seems so reluctant to play the 21-year-old, but what is certain is that he needs to be playing regular first-team football at an important time in his career.

He cannot be warming the bench for the Gers and considering the number of games that Rangers have to play, it’s a shock that he hasn’t been called upon more.

There is obviously a chance that the Rangers boss doesn’t deem the full-back good enough to be part of his first team and that would be another dash against the name of Wilson and his recent transfer activity.

Forking out £3.6million on a player who has hardly featured and has already been linked with a move away from the club is fairly abject business from the Gers.

Things have picked up in recent weeks domestically, but it’s clear that Rangers are still a long way behind in Europe at the moment. The business this summer was clearly not up to scratch, and the transfer of Yilmaz could well be another careless mistake from Wilson and the decision-makers behind the scenes at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, van Bronckhorst’s staff were impressed by this 22-year-old when he returned from loan but he was sold anyway in the summer.
