Rangers must make Leon King their next contract priority

Leon King has been a standout performer so far in the 2022/23 campaign and Rangers must make the 18-year-old their next contract priority.

King has gained invaluable experience so far this season after featuring in all three of Rangers’ Champions League fixtures and putting in a fine display in their 2-0 defeat against Liverpool.

He has also featured five times in the Scottish Premiership and looks like he could really develop into a classy defender in the years to come for Rangers.

Adam Devine was the latest player to commit his long-term future to the club, with the 19-year-old signing a new deal (9 October) to keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2025.

King’s current deal doesn’t run out until the summer of 2024, however, if he does enter the final year of his current deal, it would not be a shock to see clubs from south of the border take note of the ever-improving 18-year-old.

Having played at Anfield and look untroubled at such a young age will only see his stock rise even more and ultimately he will be viewed as a good value pick-up by clubs from across England.

Getting him tied down to a new deal should hopefully keep him at Ibrox long-term but also protects Rangers from losing him for a minimal fee.

The Daily Record reported (22 September) that the Gers are likely to begin contract negotiations with the youngster soon. These talks should be rammed up because with every encouraging display he puts in, more clubs will begin to take an interest in the youngster to potentially lure him away from Ibrox.

Ross Wilson needs to get his contract extended soon.

In other Rangers news, the club now had a record-breaking striker on trial at Ibrox and he’s gone on to make headlines in the United Kingdom.
