Rangers: Galatasaray eye January loan swoop for Ridvan Yilmaz

Turkish Super League side Galatasaray have targeted Rangers left-back Ridvan Yilmaz for a January loan swoop, according to Takvim.

The 21-year-old only arrived at Ibrox in the summer in a £3.5million transfer from Galatasaray’s local rivals Besiktas but has only made three appearances since the move.

In the latest club meeting at the Nef Stadium, Yilmaz’s name was high on the agenda with Gala hoping to make a January loan swoop for the Turkish international.

He has not played a minute of football since the Queen of the South test on 30 August but it is believed that he does not intend to leave Glasgow anytime soon as he is determined to fight for his place.

Despite that, Galatasaray are expected to meet with both the player and Rangers in January about a potential loan deal which could change his mind.

No chances

Yilmaz has been very unfortunate that Borna Barisic has decided to act like a footballer this season and has kept him firmly out of the team so far.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst would surely love to give the 21-year-old much more game time but with every game meaning so much even at this early stage in the season, he can’t risk rotating the team.

He also can’t really afford to sell Yilmaz, even on loan, when January comes around because then there would be absolutely no senior cover for Barisic if he gets injured or suspended.

It would be handy if he could play in another position so he had a better chance of minutes, at least off the bench but unless the Light Blues are comfortably ahead, he isn’t likely to get a sniff.

For £3.5million, van Bronckhorst would have expected more from him in the few chances he has had so far but he can’t expect him to be worth it if he only ever sits on the bench.

In other Rangers news, van Bronckhorst’s staff were impressed by this 22-year-old when he returned from loan but he was sold anyway in the summer.
