Curtis Woodhouse: All I needed to do was behave and I would’ve played for Rangers
Former footballer turned professional boxer Curtis Woodhouse has revealed that he came within 24 hours of becoming a Rangers player.
Woodhouse enjoyed a 15-year career as a professional footballer and enjoyed stints at Sheffield United, Hull City and Birmingham City.
But the former English midfielder has revealed that he came agonisingly close to joining Rangers via a post on Twitter, which was accompanied by a photo of an old newspaper report linking him with an Ibrox move.
“I always wonder how life would have been different if I’d have signed for Glasgow Rangers,” wrote Woodhouse.
“With the deal and personal terms agreed all I needed to do was behave for the next 24 hours… Maybe another one for the podcast!”
What could have been
Woodhouse clearly views his failed move as a ‘what if’ moment in his career. His eventual journey arguably didn’t live up to his true potential.
Much of that was down to his off-pitch behaviour as it was to do with his performances on it. Going by his comments surrounding his Rangers move, that seems to have been the issue behind his failed move to Glasgow too.

It seems the 42-year-old is prepared to share what happened in order for his Ibrox move to fall through, but if it was enough to put off Gers boss Dick Advocaat then perhaps it was a blessing in disguise.
Instead of moving to Rangers, Woodhouse made the move to Birmingham City where he’d make 48 appearances over two seasons.
From then on, Woodhouse’s career started to tumble, and he ended up hanging up his boots in 2012 after spells with Sheffield FC and Eastwood Town.
Woodhouse’s combative style would’ve likely been well-greeted by Rangers fans, but it wasn’t to be.
