Kemar Roofe back in full training, could play for Rangers vs St Mirren

Kemar Roofe is back in full training for Rangers and could return to the squad for the weekend clash against St Mirren, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed.

The Gers suffered a midweek defeat to Liverpool, but return to domestic action on Saturday afternoon as they look to close down Celtic’s two-point lead at the top of the table.

And the boss has revealed that his striker options have improved with Roofe back in training following his injury that has seen him miss the whole season so far, while hinting that he could field Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos up front together as quoted by Joshua Barrie.

The boss also revealed that there is no update yet on Tom Lawrence’s injury, which is expected to see him be unavailable until after the World Cup at least.

Alex Lowry is also back in full training, although he is a few weeks away from being in contention as he looks to build up his fitness once more.

Boost

As if the team needed more competition up front, Roofe’s return is a positive for the side as they look to find new ways to catch Celtic and find solutions in Europe.

The return of Lowry to training is also excellent news too as the midfield has lacked some freshness and spark in recent weeks, where he could have stepped in and really make a statement for the position.

St Mirren have already picked up a win over Celtic this season, the only team to take points from them so far in the campaign, and they will be keen to pick up an Old Firm double.

The squad must be ready for that and look to take the game by the scruff of the neck early, so Van Bronckhorst can look to potentially put some key players on the bench early with Liverpool coming to Ibrox on Wednesday.

But they must ensure that St Mirren are put to the sword first to bring confidence back to the side, and the boss has some decisions to make with his team now.

Fans would love to see Morelos and Colak together, and now seems like the perfect time to give it a go.
