Tom English slams Rangers duo James Tavernier and Borna Barisic after what they did v Liverpool
Tom English slams Rangers duo James Tavernier and Borna Barisic for their performance during the 2-0 defeat vs Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men all but sealed their exit from the Champions League when they lost their third straight game on the bounce in Europe.
Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah were enough for Jurgen Klopp’s men to secure maximum points on the night.

In his BBC column, English wrote, “Did they look like a team who believed themselves capable of making a match of this? They displayed little or none of that, until right at the end. James Tavernier and Borna Barisic looked terrified to go forward for fear of what might happen if Liverpool countered on them. Rangers existed in the match. That’s all. Beyond McGregor, few of them had anything to remember this by.”
Brutal
Rangers looked tame throughout the game and we cannot disagree with English’s assessment here.
They never seemed to get out of second gear and the full-backs looked scared of venturing forward to make things happen.
This was a dismal performance all round for Rangers and van Bronckhorst deserves to take his fair share of the blame for it.
He set the side up so defensively in order to not get beaten and ended up paying the price as Liverpool were always going to find a breakthrough and that’s precisely what they did.
Hopefully, they can do something in the remaining three games to at least get to the Europa League but it will require a complete change in their mentality and philosophy.
At this point, even getting one point seems to be hard for Gers and they will have to be far better against Ajax, Napoli and Liverpool in the reverse fixtures.
In other Rangers news, the club now had a record-breaking striker on trial at Ibrox and he’s gone on to make headlines in the United Kingdom.
