Rangers: Tam McManus applauds ‘fantastic’ Allan McGregor v Liverpool
Liverpool were able to breeze past Rangers in the Champions League but it could have been an even bigger rout than the 2-0 it ended.
A free-kick from Trent Alexander-Arnold and a Mohamed Salah penalty was enough for Jurgen Klopp’s side as the Light Blues offered little going forward all evening.
The Reds looked on top form for much of the game without breaking a sweat and had it not been for a string of fine saves by Allan McGregor, things could have gotten ugly.
The 40-year-old has taken back the number one jersey from Jon McLaughlin in recent weeks and proved at Anfield that he can still throw himself about with the best of the best.
Former professional footballer turned pundit Tam McManus was impressed by the Scot despite Liverpool’s control of the game, saying via Twitter: “McGregor keeping the score down here. Fantastic. Total and absolute domination.”
Last hurrah
McGregor might have had an exceptional night on Merseyside but it is difficult to feel anything but that this was one of his final pride-saving performances.
He will be one of the oldest players in the Champions League this season and Giovanni van Bronckhorst should have a very keen eye on signing a new number one goalkeeper either in January or the following summer.

It should have been done in the transfer window just gone while everybody knew the two shot-stoppers at Ibrox were not good enough for the lofty ambitions of the club.
Poor Robby McCrorie has not been given any chance to prove he can do better either and he will almost certainly leave with his contract winding down.
Serious inquests will have to go on at Auchenhowie next season if McGregor or McLaughlin are still the club’s two best keepers no matter how well they might play this season.
In other Rangers news, McGregor wasn’t the only one lavished in praise as Heart and Hand singled out this defensive unit at Anfield.
