BBC pundit absolutely loved what Allan McGregor did for Rangers v Liverpool

Neil McCann sang the praises of the “outstanding” Allan McGregor for his performance for Rangers in their defeat to Liverpool last night.

The 40 year old kept his place in the starting lineup and delivered a spectacular performance once again between the sticks, but couldn’t stop the team from falling to a 2-0 defeat at Anfield.

But after making several big saves in the first half in particular, former Rangers winger McCann told the BBC Sport live blog [4 October, 8:44pm] that it was a “miracle” the score wasn’t more than 1-0 at half-time.

“What a save,” he said. “Outstanding again from McGregor. It’s a miracle that this is still 1-0.”

McGregor made several stops to deny £85m man Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz too, but could do nothing about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free kick or Mohammed Salah’s penalty either side of half-time.

Superstar

You don’t often get superstar goalkeepers in football, but McGregor is absolutely that for Rangers and he continues to show it even at 40.

He provides an extra aura of confidence for the defence usually and he makes it so much harder to score a goal, as Liverpool showed in this game by failing to beat him in open play.

His leadership and experience is always something that the defence rely on and Van Bronckhorst was bonkers for dropping him earlier in the season considering the way he ended the last campaign.

Rangers really haven’t shown a good account of themselves so far in Europe this season, but McGregor still continues to come out with his stock raised after each performance and that speaks volumes of how good he has been.

A miracle is certainly not an exaggeration because Rangers would have had no complaints had it been 3 or 4-0 at half-time, and there’s only one man to thank that it wasn’t.
