Ryan Kent remains in talks with Rangers as fresh Leeds United speculation emerges

Rangers remain in talks with Ryan Kent as they aim to agree a new contract with the winger, according to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.

Writing on The Athletic website on Tuesday (4 October), Campbell reported that Kent’s career “is approaching a crossroads” with the 25-year-old’s existing deal set to expire at the end of this season.

The Sunday Mirror reported via their print edition on Sunday (2 October, page 71) that Kent had refused a new contract at Ibrox and will be scouted by Aston Villa and Leeds on Tuesday night as Rangers play Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League.

However, Campbell now claims that Kent is “settled in Glasgow” and that he has a partner there and also owns horses.

Going nowhere?

If Kent is as settled in Glasgow as Campbell makes out, why hasn’t he penned a new deal yet?

Why hasn’t Ross Wilson got this contract sorted out because there’s a good chance that the situation surround Kent’s future isn’t helping his form.

Kent got back to goalscoring ways on Saturday in the 4-0 win over Hearts.

It was perhaps his best performance of the season but doing it against a non-Old Firm Scottish team reduced to 10 men for almost an hour of play isn’t enough.

Kent’s got to rediscover the form that saw him lighting up the Europa League for the last two seasons and start to really introduce himself in the Old Firm matches.

If he goes on a free transfer next year, that would be absolutely criminal from the club as he’s one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.

But at the same time, Kent is more responsible for his form than anyone else, really.

His true transfer value is unlikely to be much more than it was when he first joined us.

In other Rangers news, Scottish newspapers reacted to this “wasteful” Gers player’s performance in the international break.
