Rangers will play ‘to win’ v Liverpool – DaMarcus Beasley

DaMarcus Beasley predicts Rangers will play “to win” when they will face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.

Both teams — in dire need of points to progress to the next stage — will clash in matchday three fixture of Group A at Anfield on Tuesday, 4 October.

Talking about the match with Sky Sports, Beasley was of the opinion that regardless of the opposition, the Gers are expected to win.

“The game at Liverpool is massive,” he said. “Obviously, [Rangers] haven’t had the best start in the Champions League. They are playing a little bit of catchup.

“But it is great to see Rangers back in the Champions League. Being a fan myself and obviously playing for the club, I know how much it means to them.

“To see the players playing at a high level, I think Ibrox deserves it. The atmosphere there on the European nights is incredible. One of the best experiences in European football and world football.

“But yes, it is going to be a tough one to climb. They have Liverpool [next] which is one of the best teams in Europe but whenever you play for Rangers, you play to win.

“I know that they [the players] have that same mentality going into those games. You can bring in Barcelona but you are still expected to win. That’s the Rangers way. Hopefully, the boys will get up for this game and get all three points.”

Big chance

Rangers entered the season with hopes of improving on the last season’s performances and that’s exactly what they did in the early part by qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in more than 10 years.

Things proved to be extremely difficult from there on for the Gers in Europe’s elite club competition as they suffered back-to-back defeats against Ajax and Napoli in the first two matches.

One of the opponents Rangers would’ve identified as the most difficult ones to beat in the group would be Liverpool as they were the runners-up in the previous campaign after losing to Real Madrid in the final.

However, the Reds’ form, especially on the domestic front, will give Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his players some real hope of producing a stunning result against one of the big boys in Europe.

The fans will also be hoping that the players will turn up for the big night at Anfield and help the side in producing an unbelievable result.
