Rangers will find it ‘very difficult’ against ‘angry’ Liverpool – Graeme Souness

Rangers are all set to take on Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday evening but Graeme Souness sees a tough night ahead.

The former Bear has also managed the Reds back in his hay day and has suggested that the poor form of the English side should not be an encouraging factor for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Jurgen Klopp’s side laboured to a 3-3 draw at home to Brighton on Saturday in the Premier League and were thoroughly beaten by Napoli in their first Champions League game of this season.

Rangers

“They will be up against a Liverpool side accused of not being the same team they once were. In other words, they will face an angry group of players,” he said in his Daily Mail column.

“Anfield is always a very difficult place to go and play football. A very difficult place to get a result. I don’t think Rangers will be emboldened or encouraged by Liverpool’s recent results because they know Jurgen Klopp’s team are going to click in some game very soon and I think that’s going to be the start of them going on a run in Premier League as well.”

Attack

As Brighton and many other Premier League sides have proven this season, the current Liverpool side is one that can be attacked with ferocity and to great effect.

Virgil van Dijk is being found out as the lazy defender he truly is and Trent Alexander-Arnold is yet to look up what defend means in the dictionary.

Rangers

Napoli perfectly exposed both of these weak areas in their 4-1 hammering of the Reds on Italian soil and despite the home advantage Anfield will bring, Rangers can do the same.

Ryan Kent should be licking his lips at the prospect of being marked by Alexander-Arnold who has proven time and time again that he has very little defensive awareness.

van Bronckhorst’s side will concede at some point, that is almost inevitable, but they have the firepower to outscore their English opponents and get their first points on the board.

In other Rangers news, this Auchenhowie ace was back on form against Hearts but still admitted the team’s downfalls of recent weeks.
