Rangers must go with ‘back five’ v Liverpool – Charlie Nicholas
Charlie Nicholas believes Giovanni van Bronckhorst must play five at the back when Rangers will face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.
The Gers are still in search of their first point in Europe’s elite club competition this season and will face the Reds in matchday three at Anfield on Tuesday, 04 October.
Nicholas, in a column for Scottish Daily Express, stated that the Dutch manager should play five at the back which will give his players a chance to “frustrate” their opponent.

“Liverpool are going through an awkward time and Rangers can frustrate them,” he said. “They must go and challenge their full backs high up the pitch.
“Their midfield is a mixture of new and old, it’s not the best it has ever been. The likes of James Milner and Jordan Henderson, who are still as fit as can be, are not by their nature the most creative.
“Rangers have an opportunity in those areas. This is why Van Bronckhorst should go with a back five. He needs the wing backs to go and face the high pressure.”
Big night
Rangers fans would not have even dreamt a few years back about a day when they will face one of the big boys in Europe.
The Gers had to take a long route to be finally back where they belong and on Tuesday, it will feel like the journey has been completed when they will face Liverpool at a historic venue like Anfield.

The game presents an opportunity for a current lot of players to create history by beating one of the big clubs in the continent.
The poor form of the Reds — who are struggling on the domestic front in particular where they were held for a 3-3 draw at home by Brighton at the weekend — has also given Rangers more than just a sniff.
Van Bronckhorst will know that there could not have been a better time to get a result against Jurgen Klopp’s men and it will be interesting to see which formation he opts to play to get a positive result.
