Rangers in for ‘long night’ v Liverpool – Keith Jackson

Keith Jackson has predicted Liverpool to secure a comfortable 3-1 win against Rangers in the UEFA Champions League clash at Anfield.

The Gers are still without a point going into matchday three of Europe’s elite club competition on Tuesday, 04 October.

Making a prediction about the fixture for Daily Record, Jackson was of the opinion that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men are in for a “long night” against the runners-up of the 2021/22 edition.

“It could be a long night for Rangers if Liverpool’s A listers feel they have a point to prove,” he said. “Yes the Ibrox side have shown in the past they are capable of digging out massive results on the European stage.

“But Liverpool in full flow and on top form? That’s an entirely different ball game. [My prediction is] Liverpool 3-1 Rangers.”

Rangers entered the season hoping to replicate what they did in the previous campaign where they played in the final of the Europa League and eventually lost to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.

The season started brightly as the Gers secured their place in the group stage of the Champions League but since then, not much has gone right for the side as they are languishing at the bottom of Group A after suffering back-to-back defeats.

On Tuesday, Van Bronckhorst’s men will have the opportunity to turn it around and secure a stunning win against one of the big clubs in Europe when they will face Liverpool at their home ground.

On usual days, it might not even be a distant dream to come and beat the Reds at Anfield but because of a horrendous start to their campaign, Rangers players will feel that they have more than just a realistic chance of causing an upset.

In other Rangers news, despite a recent run of appearances, no contract talks have begun between the club and this Ibrox ace.Comment below
