Rangers could make bold formation change v Liverpool with Ryan Kent position switch mooted
Giovani van Bronckhorst could make his first significant formation change since he arrived at Rangers last season, according to The Scotsman.
Since the Dutchman took the reins from Steven Gerrard in November 2021, he has mostly utilised a 4-3-3 system with the occasional 4-2-3-1 thrown in there for good measure.
But when the Light Blues turn up at Anfield to take on Liverpool in the Champions League on Thursday, they could line up in a very unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation.

Teenage defender Leon King is tipped to start alongside Connor Goldson and Ben Davies in the back three with Ryan Kent mooted to slot in behind either Alfredo Morelos or Antonio Colak up front.
The move would then see Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield join John Lundstram in midfield while James Tavernier and Borna Barisic maintain their usual positions as full-backs/wing-backs.
Worth a go
There is no questioning that Rangers are heading to Anfield as the firm outsiders for the game despite Liverpool’s struggles in recent weeks so they can afford to take a risk.
van Bronckhorst has the personnel at his disposal to try virtually any formation that takes his fancy at any given time and if the new system isn’t working as he intended, it won’t take much to revert back to what he knows works.

Liverpool have looked very vulnerable in defence this season and were torn to shreds by Napoli on gameweek one which is something the Light Blues have to try and emulate.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has to be the focus of the majority of Rangers’ attacks on the night with the England international being under severe scrutiny from the media and his boss.
Kent may, therefore, be better suited to his usual left-wing spot but van Bronckhorst knows the plan he wants to execute.
In other Rangers news, Graeme Souness thinks his former side will find it “very difficult” at Anfield but thinks there is still hope for the Bears.
