Kemar Roofe spotted back in Rangers training, not in Liverpool squad

Kemar Roofe has been spotted back in training with the Rangers first team but he won’t make an appearance against Liverpool.

According to the Daily Record, the Jamaican international is not yet ready to feature for the Light Blues having not played a minute of football so far this season.

The 29-year-old picked up his injury in the final few weeks of last season and has been unable to recover quickly enough to play his part in the first knockings of the new campaign.

Rangers are now in Liverpool for their third Champions League group stage game of the season against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds but Roofe’s lack of match fitness means he is not with them.

Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos have been sharing the number nine spot so far this season with the former leading the way in the goals column thanks to a stunning start to life in Glasgow.

End of the road

This injury could not have come at a worse time for Roofe who really needed a quick start to the 2022-23 season to enhance his status at Ibrox.

He is probably one of the main candidates for being sold either in January or next summer on pure ability with Colak and Morelos both leaps and bounds more reliable than he is.

The one saving grace he might have is that the Colombian international is due to see his contract expire at the end of the season which may open up a door for him to become the backup.

But at this stage in his career, Roofe should be hoping for more than just the reserve striker when he still has a lot to offer the right team in the right division.

Rangers know all about his strengths so won’t fancy strengthening a domestic rival only to be bitten on the rear end soon after but there is no getting away from the fact that being third choice is not healthy for his career.

In other Rangers news, despite a recent run of appearances, no contract talks have begun between the club and this Ibrox ace.
