Giovanni van Bronckhorst: Decision between Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos for Liverpool clash ‘is not difficult’

Giovanni van Bronkhorst insists it’ll be an easy choice between starting Antonio Colak or Alfredo Morelos when Rangers face Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Following their recent 4-0 win over Hearts, Rangers will be hoping to transfer their domestic form over to the Champions League, where they are yet to pick up a point in Group A.

They face perhaps their most formidable opponent yet in Liverpool but can head to Anfield with a confident strike force of Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos.

While Morelos boasts plenty of experience leading the line for Gers, Colak has stole the limelight this season and has four goals in his last two games.

With Van Bronckhorst insisting on only playing one striker, the Dutchman spoke about how he’ll decide between Colak and Morelos for Tuesday night.

“The decision is not difficult because you always look at the opponent and how you want to play and what kind of game we expect it to be, and then we choose the best option,” said Van Bronckhorst, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.

“It’s good because both are in a really good position at the moment.

“Antonio has scored a lot of goals in the league and Morelos when he came in also. They are two different kinds of strikers but we will always look at the game ahead.”

Selection headache

The choice between Colak and Morelos is probably the toughest one Van Bronckhorst has to make on Tuesday night.

The Colombian has been a great servant for Rangers and has so often been the hero in important European games for Rangers.

But on current form, Colak is one of – if not the best – strikers in Scotland. His ability to be in the right place at the right time in the box is superb, and his poaching will be crucial against a Liverpool side that have been conceding chances of late.

Frankly, finding a system that suits both Morelos and Colak would be a dream come true for Rangers fans, but Van Bronckhorst seems set on his current shape, meaning one will likely come on from the bench if needed.

It has to be said that if only one striker is chosen, Van Bronckhorst simply has to side with Colak. The 29-year-old Croatian is in dazzling form and everything he strikes turns to goals.

With a brace in his last two games against Dundee United and Hearts, it’d be a mistake to name him on the bench against Liverpool.
