Ally McCoist backs ‘capable’ Rangers to beat Liverpool in UEFA Champions League clash
Ally McCoist believes it will be a “big ask” for Rangers to beat Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League clash at Anfield.
In the hunt for first points in Europe’s elite competition this season, the Gers will face the Reds in matchday three fixture on Tuesday, 04 October.
While speaking to talkSport on Tuesday morning as quoted by Daily Record, the 60-year-old was of the opinion that Rangers have the ability to beat Liverpool.

“It’s a big ask. It’s a really big ask,” he said. “It will need a level of performance that we did see last year against Borussia Dortmund so they are capable of it.
“But it’s one of these situations where you just think, Liverpool at home, particularly on the big European nights. We are questioning them defensively, however, they’ve still got some players, I think it’s a big ask.”
Big night
Rangers are going through a mixed season where it started all too well as they booked their place in the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in 12 years.
Then came the lean patch where the Gers suffered three consecutive defeats, starting from a 4-0 thrashing against Celtic in the Old Firm derby on 03 September.

However, it seems like the side is now well back on track after winning back-to-back matches against Dundee United and Hearts in a comprehensive manner where Rangers scored six times and conceded just a solitary goal.
Those victories have definitely eased some pressure from Giovanni van Bronckhorst who many believed was just a few bad results away from getting the sack.
The fans will now be hoping that the Dutch manager will be able to galvanise his players to produce a memorable result against the last season’s runners-up, that too while playing in their backyard.
In other Rangers news, Scottish newspapers reacted to this “wasteful” Gers player’s performance in the international break.
