Robert Snodgrass: Rangers could be in for a tough night at Anfield
Robert Snodgrass feels Rangers could be in for a “tough” night when they travel to Anfield in their third Champions League group stage fixture.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are coming off of two defeats to Ajax and Napoli and know that they must get something against Liverpool to keep their faint qualification hopes alive.
Snodgrass believes the Gers can compete at the highest level, but is also concerned with the levels Jurgen Klopp’s side could potentially reach.

He said [quoted by Glasgow Evening Times, 2 October]: “They’ll want to get the crowd quiet, give a good account of themselves and show that they’re capable of playing at the very highest level of the Champions League.
“Rangers will know how tough it can be there. Liverpool haven’t started this season exactly the way they’d have wanted to. It’s two big clubs going at it.
“But, if Liverpool are at it, it will be a tough night for Rangers.”
Fragile Liverpool
If there is an ideal time to play Liverpool, then this is probably it. Klopp’s men have been a shadow of themselves in the early part of the 2022/23 season and are coming off another disappointing result against Brighton.
The Reds are not firing on all cylinders at the moment and the Gers must try and frustrate the already concerned Anfield crowd as much as possible.
Slowing the game down, making it a stop-start affair, and looking to use set-pieces regularly could be a good ploy for van Bronckhorst’s men.

The longer the score remains 0-0 the more the match will play into Rangers’ hands. Before the group got underway the trip to Anfield looked like the most daunting task, but at the moment it feels like a good opportunity for Rangers to make a real statement.
With an upturn in form in recent weeks, the players and management should be heading to Merseyside with a spring in their step, looking to cause a seismic upset.
