Rangers must brace for Liverpool onslaught – Keith Jackson

Keith Jackson believes Rangers must be ready for a Liverpool onslaught when the teams meet on Tuesday evening (04 October).

Both sides, who are in dire need of points, will face off in the matchday three fixture of the UEFA Champions League at Anfield.

In a column for Daily Record, Jackson was of the opinion that the Reds will come out all guns blazing because of their big problems on the domestic front.

“In normal, less stressful circumstances, Jurgen Klopp might have felt able to keep one eye fixed on Sunday’s Premier League blockbuster at table-topping Arsenal,” he wrote. “But, on this occasion, Rangers will be given no such luck.

“Klopp is currently experiencing the most flaky form of his entire time on Merseyside. A 3-3 draw at home to Brighton on Saturday left his side stranded in ninth place in England’s top flight and hopelessly detached from the top end of the division.

“In other words, the heat is on the German like never before which is why he can afford no mercy when Van Bronckhorst and his players come to town.

“To compound matters – as if that was even required – Liverpool’s opening night thumping away to Napoli means the English side are currently engaged in a fight just to make it into the knock-out stages. Which is where they live.

“Put it this way, if Rangers had been hoping that some complacency might creep into the proceedings, Leandro Trossard relieved them of that notion the moment he wrapped his hat-trick goal into the roof of Liverpool’s net on Saturday afternoon.”

Rangers

Big chance

Rangers entered the Champions League knowing that they hardly had a chance of progressing to the next stage after being placed in an extremely difficult group.

The Gers suffered back-to-back thumping defeats against Ajax and Napoli in the first two matches, making it all too obvious that stepping up from Europa League to Champions League will be extremely tough.

One of the teams Rangers must have identified the toughest to beat in the group would’ve been Liverpool after all they were runners-up in the previous campaign after losing to Real Madrid in the final.

However, after seeing their form this season where the Premier League giants are struggling in all three departments, the fans will be dreaming of a surprising result.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be looking to galvanise his players and ensure that they put their best performance on Tuesday and hope for Liverpool to continue making silly mistakes as they have done all this season which would give Rangers a sniff of getting an unbelievable result at Anfield.
