Dermot Gallagher offers verdict on Cammy Devlin red card v Rangers
Dermot Gallagher believes Cammy Devlin can have no complaints after he was sent off in the first half of Hearts’ 4-0 home defeat to Rangers.
The Hearts man steamed in on Rabbi Matondo in the 39th minute to earn himself a straight red card with the Gers already in a 2-0 lead.
Gallagher feels that the official was right to send the 24-year-old off and questions why he decided to make the tackle in the first place.
Talking on Sky Sports News [3 October], Gallagher said: “He’s not in the picture and just comes from all that distance to stamp in on a player, he’s always going to get a red card, I don’t know why he did that.”
Ridiculous
It was a ridiculous challenge from the Hearts man with his side already in dire straights after a rampant first half from Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men.
It was good the official didn’t bow to the pressure of the home crowd at Tynecastle and sent the 24-year-old off. Matondo was lucky to not be seriously injured during the incident. Furthermore, Matondo wasn’t going anywhere and was just shielding the ball which makes the tackle even more ridiculous.
Too often, players aren’t protected due to tackles such as this going unpunished. On the plus side for Rangers, it was another excellent display which has furthered eased the pressure on Giovanni van Bronckhorst after a difficult September for the Rangers boss.

The win over Hearts keeps the pressure on Celtic who have stuttered in recent weeks after their Old Firm victory at Parkhead.
Rangers have a huge week coming up with their much-anticipated trip to Liverpool followed by St. Mirren at Ibrox, who picked up an impressive victory against Celtic on 18 September.
