Ryan Kent refuses to sign new Rangers contract, will leave Ibrox in 2023 with Aston Villa and Leeds United keen

Ryan Kent will leave Rangers in 2023 after refusing to renew his contract at Ibrox, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Sunday (2 October, page 71) that Leeds United and Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa are keen on signing the 25-year-old winger and are set to watch him play against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night (4 October).

It is understood that as Kent’s current deal expires at the end of the season, he’s now expected to leave Glasgow as a free agent with a move to the Premier League seemingly on the cards.

Get him gone

Kent may have scored in the win over Hearts on Saturday but that doesn’t mean the Kent of old is back.

We need him to step up in the Champions League games and in the Old Firm fixtures, not just in a game against Hearts when we’re already cruising.

We’ll give him credit where it’s due and say he did play well at Tynecastle and we hope that he’s turned a corner regarding his form and can put on a show at Anfield on Tuesday.

However, throughout his time at Ibrox, Kent has blown hot and cold.

He can be the star of the show in the Europa League in midweek before struggling and doing very little in a league match against Livingston at the weekend.

For a player of his quality, it’s frustrating to watch him struggle so badly to find consistency and that leads some fans to give him the tag of a luxury player.

Of course, Kent has shown he can be one of the best in Scottish football.

But if his form hasn’t been that great anyway and he’s refusing to sign a new contract then we want to see the back of him and see if we can get a replacement who’s just as good, if not better.

Unfortunately, we don’t trust Ross Wilson to be able to do that.

In other Rangers news, Scottish newspapers reacted to this “wasteful” Gers player’s performance in the international break.
