Ross Wilson suggests Van Bronckhorst impressed with Rangers defender Ben Davies
Ross Wilson has suggested that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is impressed with Rangers defender Ben Davies who joined from Liverpool in the summer.
The Gers sporting director has come under criticism this season for the club’s transfer dealings, with many pundits suggesting that the club didn’t make proper replacements for Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo.
Davies has hardly featured this season, but Wilson feels that the centre-back is now “ready to go”, and that he has impressed heavily in training.
“Ben [Davies] hadn’t done a full pre-season with Liverpool. He’s up to speed now, back on the bench, ready to go, and he’s one that the manager and staff are really pleased with,” said Wilson in an interview with The Times.
The Bears have made a stuttering start to the season and they lost the Old Firm derby clash 4-0 already.
Losing Bassey was a huge blow, and doubts were raised about whether the club replaced him properly.
Davies joined from Liverpool but he hasn’t played much. Wilson explains that he was short of match fitness, but now he is ready.
Rangers have suffered a big blow after Van Bronckhorst confirmed that centre-back John Siuttar won’t be back before the World Cup.
This leaves an opportunity for Davies to cement his position on the side. It seems, he has impressed everyone in training, and now it’s upto him to grab those opportunities.
As per other summer signings are concerned, the likes of Tom Lawrence and Antonio Colak can be called a success.
Malik Tillman has done well so far, although more consistency is needed from him. The likes of Ridvan Yilmaz and Rabbi Matondo are yet to show their full potential, but they are expected to deliver once they properly settle down.
