Van Bronckhorst: Rangers summer signing Ridvan Yilmaz has improved in training

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has suggested that Rangers summer signing Ridvan Yilmaz has improved in training in recent weeks.

The 21-year-old joined in the summer from Turkish club Besiktas on a five-year deal. The Bears paid around £3.4m (rising to £5m) for the talented Turkish international.

The Dutchman suggests that Yilmaz is gradually settling down at the club, and he is expected to get more games going forward.

“For Ridvan this is a new club and country, he’s settling in really well. The beginning was a bit hard for him to get settled but I see improvement in his training, he looks more settled with the players,” said the Dutchman, as quoted by Rangers Review.

“It’s always good to see that. We have to see in the coming weeks that he will feature more in the team. Of course, depending on what we need in games and his training.”

Patience

The youngster is seen as a direct replacement for Calvin Bassey who moved to Ajax in the summer transfer window for a club-record fee.

A host of clubs were interested in signing the youngster, but he made it clear he wanted to move to join Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team.

However, the youngster has made only three appearances in all competitions so far, with the Dutchman relying heavily on Borna Barisic.

While Barisic has done well in patches, many have wondered why Yilmaz, who is already an international, has not been given enough chances.

We have to trust the Dutchman here. He sees him regularly in training, and he probably felt that the Turkish international is still not ready yet to play regularly.

Obviously, no one questions his talent, but sometimes it requires time to settle down at a new club, and adjust to a new system.

The Bears have signed him on a long-term deal, and the club are ready to give him time to settle down properly.

Rangers will face Hearts in their next Scottish Premiership clash on Saturday (1 October) at Tynecastle.
