Rangers yet to open new contract negotiations with Ryan Jack

Ryan Jack has confirmed that there are no current talks ongoing to extend his current stay at Rangers with less than one year to go.

The 30-year-old is one of a number of Light Blues players that will see their current deal in Glasgow expire at the end of the season along with Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, among others.

Jack spoke to the media on Friday (30 September) and confirmed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the Ibrox hierarchy have not made any contact over a new deal.

“Nothing has been spoken about to myself or my agent,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Express. “Right now it’s just about focusing on getting a good run in the team, putting a good run together and consistently playing well. Whatever happens on the back of that will happen.

“I feel good. I picked up an injury in cup final and that put me out of the Scotland summer camp and then pre-season was a bit slower for me but I feel I’m up and running now and hopefully, I can start showing that with performances.”

Move on

Jack has been a great servant to the football club over the years but there have to be some eyes on the future and whether he is a major part of it.

He is already someone who isn’t an automatic selection every week like John Lundstram is in the midfield and with Alex Lowry emerging as a very talented teenager behind him, this summer could be the ideal moment to part ways.

Rangers

van Bronckhorst will want to have a much younger squad where possible and with James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Lundstram all secured for the next few years, experience is accounted for.

There will be ambitions at Ibrox of the club going to much bigger places in the footballing world and to overhaul some of the bigger clubs in Europe, they can’t really afford to have someone like Jack hanging around the club.

He won’t be the only one potentially on the chopping block which could see a big changing of the guard in Glasgow.

In other Rangers news, the manager has confirmed team news for the visit of Hearts on Saturday with one key player now ruled out.
