Barry Ferguson urges Rangers to start Alfredo Morelos ahead of Antonio Colak v Hearts

Barry Ferguson believes Alfredo Morelos should start for Rangers ahead of Antonio Colak in their upcoming match against Hearts.

The Gers will return to action after a two-week-long international break and they will travel to Tynecastle Park on Saturday afternoon (02 October).

Ferguson, in a column for the Daily Record, stated that Giovanni van Bronckhorst must start the same playing XI as the one who played against Napoli where Morelos started ahead of Colak.

Rangers

“If I was Gio van Bronckhorst, I’d send out an almost identical starting line-up [to the one that faced Napoli] to get the job done against a strong Hearts side,” he wrote.

“Allan McGregor in goal, James Tavernier and Borna Barisic at full-back, Ryan Jack, Steve Davis and John Lundstram in the middle of the pitch and a front three of Scott Arfield, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.

“The only change I’d make would be to pair young Leon King with Connor Goldson in the centre of defence. There is no room for error here and these are guys the manager knows he can hang his hat on.

“So, while he may want to get the likes of Malik Tillman, Antonio Colak or even Ben Davies into his team, these guys are going to have to earn it.”

Interesting call

Rangers had a decent outing in the recently concluded transfer window where they signed seven first-team players.

One of the most high-profile arrivals for the Gers was Colak who joined the club from Greek outfit PAOK in a deal worth £1.8 million plus add-ons [Sky Sports].

His arrival was directly linked with anticipation that Morelos will leave the club as he is currently in the final year of his contract at Ibrox Stadium.

However, Colak has been a real sensation ever since arriving in Scotland where he has already scored nine goals across all competitions and provided an assist in just 13 appearances [Transfermarkt]

Those numbers are just too good to ignore, especially considering his alternative Morelos has only netted once in six appearances.

Therefore, Ferguson’s suggestion to start the Colombia international ahead of the Croatia international does not make much sense and if Van Bronckhorst decides to go that way, it will definitely going to be an interesting call.
