Mark Hateley urges Rangers to start Antonio Colak ahead of Alfredo Morelos v Hearts

Mark Hateley believes Rangers must start Antonio Colak ahead of Alfredo Morelos when the club competitions resume after the international break.

The Gers are going through a somewhat difficult campaign despite qualifying for the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Hateley was quoted in a report by Daily Record where he stated that the Croatia international has done enough to keep his place in the team for the match against Hearts ahead of the Colombian.

“I’d pick Colak because he’s the man in scoring form and when you’re on a run like that, you have to stay in the team,” he said.

“I know Gio put Alfredo in for the Napoli game but Colak came straight back in for the last league game against Dundee United and he did what he had to do – he scored the two goals that won Rangers the match.

“As a striker who had done that, I would be mightily unhappy if I didn’t play in the next match. He’s earned the right to keep the jersey.

“You have to always play your striker who is in form and scoring goals, and that man is Colak at the moment.”

Important games ahead

Rangers entered the campaign hoping to improve what they did last season where they won the Scottish Cup and also finished as the runners-up in the UEFA Europa League.

The season started in a manner that would’ve given a lot of hope to the Gers fans as the side qualified for the group stage of Europe’s elite club competition for the first time in more than 10 years.

However, three heavy defeats in the space of a few weeks have definitely increased pressure on the players as well as the manager to turn things around.

During all those matches, one player stood out for Rangers, not only in terms of scoring goals but also in terms of showing leadership skills on the pitch and that was Colak.

The Croatia international has been extremely influential ever since arriving at Ibrox and the fans will be hoping that he can deliver similar performances in the matches to come.
