Ianis Hagi could miss rest of 2022 in Rangers injury blow

Ianis Hagi is set to miss the rest of 2022 as the Rangers player’s father, Gheorghe, shared an update on his son and his recovery so far.

The 23-year-old has been out of action since he was forced off in the Scottish Cup against Stirling Albion on 21 January and has suffered a number of setbacks since then.

Gheorghe Hagi, a Romanian international himself in his playing days, has been by his son’s side throughout the very long process to being back fit but admitted that returning before the turn of the year might not happen.

“I don’t know whether Ianis will play this year or not,” he said, as quoted by Football Scotland. “He is in his last period of rehabilitation, but that won’t be a short period of time either. It takes time.

“He has returned to light training and he is beginning to get used to the effort and power required that you need on the pitch.

“We are all hoping he comes back as soon as possible. I’m not in Glasgow, so I don’t know exactly how well he is doing. The Rangers doctors and medical staff… they will know his progress a lot better than me.”

Luckless

What has Hagi done to deserve this constant frustration and setbacks? It was such an innocuous moment that saw him forced off against Stirling and this length of time out is almost unfair to him.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the rest of the Rangers squad and staff are rightly being very patient with him because they know that his ability to change a game single-handedly will eventually come in handy.

He could probably do with some of that magic right now with just one win in the Light Blues’ last four matches in all competitions, that being a scraped 2-1 win at home to Dundee United.

With the form being shown by some players at Ibrox right now, Hagi could possibly walk into the starting XI once he is back to full fitness but that landmark seems a very long way away right now.

It could be an entire 12 months from injury to return at this rate but as soon as he does come back, Rangers will be much better off because of it.

In other Rangers news, another Gers ace who has been out injured teased his return to action on his Instagram story on Wednesday.
