Glen Kamara admits ‘dream’ to leave Rangers for Premier League club

Glen Kamara has admitted that it is his dream to play in the Premier League, casting fresh doubt over his Rangers future.

The Finland international was linked with a summer transfer to Turkey and OGC Nice in France, but a deal never materialised and so far he has been on the fringes of the squad at Ibrox this season under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

In an interview with Helsingin Sanomat [26 September] though, the player admitted that he dreams of playing in a top five league at some point in his career and admitted that we would have to “wait and see what happens” in regards to his future.

“I have always dreamed of playing in the Premier League,” he said. “And perhaps not just playing in the English Premier League, but in the top five leagues in general. They all interest me.

“Let’s see what happens. My time at Rangers has been good. The club has been good to me. I’ve been there for almost four years. Who knows what the future will bring. Maybe we just have to wait and see what happens.”

Expected

Kamara is a terrific player and arguably one of the best bargains the club has ever picked up after signing him for just £50,000 from Dundee back in 2019.

He’s got several years remaining on his contract and would likely be one of the most saleable assets at Ibrox right now, bringing in a multi-million pound transfer fee if he were to leave.

Considering he came through the Arsenal academy and grew up in London it’s no surprise at all that he is looking to go back down south at some point, or compete at an elite level in the bigger leagues in Europe.

But Rangers are in a fantastic position when it comes to his future because of his contract situation, and ultimately we shouldn’t be selling him without an excellent offer or unless we have a replacement lined up.

He’s struggled to get into the team recently, but his quality is undeniable and it’s surely only a matter of time before Van Bronckhorst is back to relying on him in midfield.
