Hamit Altıntop comes to defence of Ridvan Yilmaz after slow start at Rangers

Turkish Football Federation board member Hamit Altıntop has hit back at critics of left-back Ridvan Yilmaz for his Rangers performances.

The 21-year-old joined the Gers in the summer transfer window from Besiktas in a deal worth £5 million [Sky Sports].

Altıntop, while talking to the media as quoted by Daily Record, expressed optimism that the young full-back, who has only featured 176 minutes in the ongoing campaign at the club level, will be back to his best in the near future.

“Don’t we see that Ridvan has entered into a culture and language change? We are talking about months [after the move],” he said.

“I hope the senior players will show him the right path, give [him] courage and self-confidence. They [young players] need us.

“They say to us, I hope they show us the right way, they say it will help me. We are striving for them. We want to play well.

“Want want them to say if I am talented, I can be successful with this determination. They should say that I can come to the right places.”

Important

Rangers are having a weird season where they started as if they would even better what they achieved last year where they finished as the runners-up in the UEFA Europa League and won the Scottish Cup as well.

However, a few bad weeks have turned their season upside down as they lost three crucial fixtures against Celtic, Ajax and Napoli starting with a 4-0 drubbing in the Old Firm derby on September 3.

One of the players Rangers signed in the summer with a lot of hype was Yilmaz who was one of the most expensive players to join the club.

His performances will definitely going to impact how the Gers will go about their business in the ongoing campaign as the primary reason to bring him was to ensure that there is an equal threat coming from both full-backs but that has not been the case.

The fans will be hoping that the Turkey international will find a way and produce better performances in the weeks to come.
