Kenny Miller delivers strong verdict on Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos

Kenny Miller strongly believes that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is “still the guy” to lead the line upfront.

The Colombian striker has struggled with fitness this season and Giovanni van Bronckhorst has used Antonio Colak upfront instead.

While Colak has been in good scoring form, the Gers legend feels he’d still pick Morelos ahead of the summer signing, given a choice.

“I just don’t see Alfredo being the type of guy who sacrifices his own game to ensure Colak can score 25 goals a season,” wrote Miller in his column for The Sunday Mail (25 September, 40-41).

“Alfredo wants to be the main man and he’s still the guy I’d turn to if both were fit and firing.”

Morelos has been the club’s talisman figure for the past few years. He has scored over 100 goals for the club, and he has established himself as a terrific striker.

This season, he has struggled for games. Giovanni van Bronckhorst is still not convinced with the Colombian’s fitness, but he thinks he is gradually coming back to full sharpness.

Miller suggests that both Colak and Morelos cannot play together. It has to be either one.

The suggestion that Morelos, being mobile, could be drifted out wide to accommodate space for Colak, won’t work. In that way, Van Bronckhorst won’t get the best from either of the two players.

Colak has been in good form since joining the Gers, and Van Bronckhorst seems to trust him more. But no one can deny the quality Morelos possesses, and Miller feels that given a choice he would still back the Colombian to start.

Morelos, however, has less than a year left on his present deal, and there is no indication if he will sign a new deal at the club.

In other Rangers news, stats show the club are being given a rough ride already this season by the referees compared to Celtic.
