Andy Walker claims Celtic squad is much stronger than Rangers

Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker believes Celtic’s squad depth will give them an edge over Rangers in the title challenge this season.

The Hoops secured a thumping 4-0 win against the Gers in the first Old Firm of the 2022-23 campaign on 3 September.

Walker, while talking to Go Radio, as quoted by Football Scotland, believes Rangers will find it tough to compete against this Celtic team who are much stronger.

“The strength in depth that Celtic have is the difference,” he said. “I think their squad is much stronger than Rangers.”

Important fixtures ahead

Rangers entered the campaign hoping to improve what they did last season where they finished as the runners-up in the UEFA Europa League and also won the Scottish Cup.

This season started in such a manner that would’ve given a lot of hope to the fans as the Gers managed to finally secure a place in the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in more than 10 years.

However, things turned upside down in the space of two weeks when the side suffered three heavy defeats against Celtic, Ajax and Napoli.

Those results were a reality check to the players as well as the fans who would’ve been hoping for a much better show.

The responsibility now lies with Giovanni van Bronckhorst who now must find a way to galvanise players to improve the overall performance of the teams as a few more bad results might be enough to end his short reign at Ibrox Stadium.

In other Rangers news, stats show the club are being given a rough ride already this season by the referees compared to Celtic.
